December 26 Garden of Prayer and Sermon Summary
How’s your week? The year is about to end and I hope we would have the chance to reflect on the goodness of God and His providence in our lives. Then and only then can we really go on with the year ahead of us.
We had a few prayers this week, mostly thanksgiving and prayers:
Alice – praise the Lord that though the doctors predicted her to have another operation, God had spared her that.
Angel – prayer request for a friend (Eric) in the Philippines who had lost a father lately, may the family be comforted during this time of mourning; and other friends who lost a loved one this year
Chu-mei – thanksgiving and praise for the response of her 2 students who had attended the concert last Dec 12
Sharon (a guest) – thanks for being able to attend church and find New Life; pray that she will be allowed by her employer to regularly attend church.
Sermon this week: “God’s DNA and fingerprint as shown in science and His word”
“But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” Daniel 12:4
How does God communicate? What language does He use to reveal His thought, His will and His plans? This was delineated in this past Sabbath’s sermon by Daniel Clinciu.
Throughout the generation of mankind, God had spoken in various ways. Yet the most distinct language any human can relate to is nature and His written word, the Bible.
In order for us to understand Him fully, we must also know the language He speaks. In nature, God’s true identity is revealed by various pattern such as water, fire, tree, or even the smallest atom. If we are sensitive enough to look at nature, there are overwhelming and unambiguous evidence of the triune God, and in each of these pattern are characteristics of that nature. In nature was given the ability to reproduce and bring out offspring of the same likeness. How does this happen? Only the Divine Hand knows, it is a mystery beyond understanding.
Besides nature, God had clearly shown to man of His will in holy word. We are His children. Though the devil lies about this, the truth does not change. We must have evidence to show that we indeed are children.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” (Genesis 1:27). In the very first chapter of the book of Genesis, is written God’s ownership of us. We are His offspring, created after His image and likeness.
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12). Yet, more than this, God re-affirmed His ownership of us through the blood of His only begotten Son. No one can deny these two facts. They are witnesses that we are God’s.
It is through His Son, that we have this confidence. Clearly, no one can contest this truth that “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
Let us not deny this fact by refusing to believe and repent. Let us look at the Cross, and there ponder this truth. “God intelligently and selflessly designed His creatures” because He is Love, the very essence of it. Oh, only if we try to understand the Father as He speaks! No human language can describe that love that love enough to die that we might live.
My appeal to all for this coming year is that let us learn the language of love spoken to us at Calvary, that we might get closer and still closer to the knowledge of God’s mind and heart.
A blessed 2010 to all!
